Sensory Processing Training for Groups

Sensory Processing Training for Groups2018-09-11T17:13:07+00:00

The latest update at GriffinOT is a format of our sensory processing training for groups.  We have adapted our course ‘Sensory Processing – What’s the Fuss?’ to be run over a day or over 2-4 shorter periods.  The aim of this online sensory training is to explain why everyone must give a fuss about sensory processing disorder!  We know that it’s often expensive to have trainers come to you and can be hard to organise schedules which is why we have adapted our flagship online sensory processing training for groups.  The training offers an alternative to the individual course for larger groups of people.

What Does the Online Sensory Processing Training for Groups Cover?

The online Sensory Processing Disorder training is designed not just to help you understand what Sensory Processing Disorder is, but how sensory modulation affects children day to day.  The training teaches you why the senses are important for children’s learning and how they affect children’s behaviour and interactions.  We also provide ideas on how to help support children’s sensory processing at home and school.

The sections of the group sensory training are:

  • Section 1 – Introduction to Sensory Processing, Arousal, and Modulation.

  • Section 2 – Our 7 senses.

  • Section 3 – Neurology of Sensory Processing and the Subtypes.

  • Section 4 – How to Help – Introduction.

  • Section 5 – How to Help – Ideas for Subtypes.

  • Section 6 – Optional case study.

Who Is The SPD Online Group Training Designed For?

  • A parent group wanting to know more about Sensory Processing Disorder.

  • A group of teachers or teaching assistants working with children or adults who have Sensory Processing Disorder or Autism.

  • Health Professionals with limited or no knowledge about Sensory Processing Disorder.  This would include GPs, social workers, physiotherapists, psychologists and nurses wanting an introduction to Sensory Processing Disorder / Sensory Integration.

Testimonials from Previous Participants

‘Would very much recommend for schools.’

‘I liked the visual pictures on the slides as it made it more interesting.  I think the course would be good for schools to empower them.’

‘Good content and broken up well.  Sensory Processing: What’s the Fuss for groups would work well for school or parents and could be delivered in small sessions.’

‘I think that school staff would find it valuable to help them understand the basics.  I like how it can be broken down into sections and can be done at different times.’

‘Online for schools could work very well.’

How Long Is The Course?

There are a number of options for completing the course but it will take a minimum of 5 hours to complete.   The core video content is 4.5 hours, and there are sensory challenges and an optional case study.  The course could be presented across a full day (7.5 hours) or broken into 2-4 shorter periods depending on your group’s needs and availability.  There are additional resources which participants can also review outside of this time.

How Long Do I Have To Access The Course?

Once you have signed up you have three months to complete the course, sometimes we have promotions offering extended access to the course.  During this time you can access the video content as often as you like. This means that if any members of your group were not available on the day they can catch up in their own time.  In addition, many of the extra materials can be accessed after the three months as they are open source.  There are also handouts and information that can be downloaded and referred back to.

Coordination Outline

The coordinator outline gives a detailed description of how the onsite coordinator could run the course.  If you wanted to preview this you can download it here.  In addition, there is a video for the coordinator outlining recommendations on how to run the course.   This can be previewed on the course page.
