Kim has some capacity to complete face to face assessments from September 2025.  If you are based in west London or the west home counties, Kim may be able to complete an in person occupational therapy assessment.  This page outlines the details of the assessment and the procedure. The intake form is below. The assessment will cover sensory processing, motor skills, visual perception and handwriting.  It is suitable for parents wanting to understand their children’s needs and to be used as evidence for an EHCP submission.  Please note, Kim does not do tribunal work.

What might the OT assessment look at?

1. Motor and movement skills (including dyspraxia) – Kim can assess fine motor skills (e.g. pencil grip, handwriting, scissor use) and gross motor skills (e.g. balance, coordination, core strength) to understand how a child manages everyday physical tasks at home and in school.

2. Sensory processing and regulation – Kim can support you to understand your child’s sensory preferences and how any sensory differences are affect their attention, behaviour, or ability to participate in daily routines. She has extensive experience supporting sensory needs in autism.

3. Independence and school readiness – Kim will also assess your child’s ability to complete everyday activities like dressing, using cutlery, organising belongings, and managing classroom tools. She can complete school visits in London and home counties, including nurseries, mainstream schools, and SEND provisions.

About the Children’s Occupational Therapy Assessment

Please face to face occupational therapy assessments are available in London and the home counties.  This includes West London, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire, Berkshire and Surrey.

The OT assessment will be completed by occupational therapist Kim Griffin.  Kim has completed her sensory integration qualifications and has experience in autism, attachment and dyspraxia.  You can read more about Kim here.

Assessments are typically completed at your child’s school.  In specific cases they can be completed at home, this will be discussed with you at the time of booking.

If you need an OT report for your child’s EHCP application, please let Kim when you first contact her.  There is an additional fee for  EHCP reports as these take more time to write, Kim can accept payment from Local Education Authorities if they have agreed to fund your child’s OT assessment.

The assessment will

  • Identify your child’s strengths and where they have challenges participating

  • Help you to understand the underlying reasons your child may struggle to participate

  • Assess your child’s sensory processing patterns, motor skills, visual perception and handwriting

  • Review your child’s ability to participate in self care tasks, like dressing and toileting

  • Help you to recognise and understand your child’s sensory processing patterns.

  • Improve your understanding of why your child may respond differently to others.

  • Provide a year’s access to our online sensory training for one adult.

The report will

  • Provide you with a full outline of your child’s strengths and areas they find more challenging

  • Explain what underlying skills might be impacting your child’s function

  • Where relevant, support strategies will also be included with the report.

  • If requested, recommendations for Sections B, E and F of your child’s EHCP including goals and support strategies (additional fee).

The report will not

  • It will NOT provide a diagnosis. An occupational therapy assessment alone does not provide sufficient evidence for a diagnosis. You child’s paediatrician can use the report to inform their diagnosis.

  • The report is not designed to be evidence at a tribunal.

  • There is NO guarantee that the information, recommendations or provision in the report will be included in your child’s EHCP.  Parents are entitled to submit private therapist reports to the LEA, however the LEA finalises the EHCP wording.

The cost

In person paediatric occupational therapy assessment cost from £950.  The final amount will depend on your child’s specific needs, the type of report require (EHCP, no EHCP application), and where you are located.  Kim will confirm this amount following the initial enquiry and before the assessment starts.

Where does Kim visit?

Assessments can be completed in West London, Buckinghamshire (e.g. Chesham/Amersham/Chalfonts), Hertfordshire (e.g. St Albans/Hertford), Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Surrey.

What is Kim’s current waiting time

There is usually a 3 month wait time, but this depends on the time of year.

What will the report look like?

The report will vary from child to child.  It will outline the assessment completed and how these functionally impact your child’s skills.  There will be recommendations on how to support any areas of needs.  If the report has been requested to add to your child’s EHCP submission there will also be recommendations for the EHCP sections.

How long will it take to receive my child’s report?

Kim aims to send reports within 10 working days of completing your child’s assessment.  If there have been delays in receiving paperwork from yourself or school, there may be a delay to the report as Kim allocates administration time after the assessment session.
